I won't bother asking where you're getting these builds

but, whoever you're getting them from could easily get their nuts cut off by apple. Our dev guys have noticed that these post-beta builds contact Apple every time the machine starts up, presumably to let Apple track which machines are running their dev builds. As you can see, this could cause a bit of a problem if dozens of machines with widely spread IPs but the same dev build serial number start tickling Apple at startup...

errr... maybe I shouldn't install it then...

:D err if apple knows wher I am... then I am screwed royally.... or do they really care if someone who bought it uses a beta?

They might discover your ip address. Big whoop.

We've been using these leaked builds for months. I think they'd have done something by now.

    that ain't it

Um yeah of course you don't register, that isn't the communication I've been hearing about. The sneaky contacting apple thing might be b.s. and not really exist, could be disinformation to try to keep employees from taking a copy home *shrug*

I plan on buying my copy from my school, whenever they get a shipment that is, I'm not worried. I'll wait so I can get my university discount (we get insane software discounts from manufacturers)

Is it the same discount you get through Apple's Education Purchase Program? If it is, you can go ahead and order it now on Apple's website, follow this link:

    http://www.apple.com/education/

Click on the link that says "The Apple Store" from this screen, and then it will talk you through some steps, you pick the name of your school from a list, etc, and then you can make purchases at the discounted price. I think the OS X education price is $69 US, plus tax and S&H.
