Effectively grouping is a good idea since it would allow friends on different factions to group together occasionally. Otherwise they might decide to create alternate charactors on both faction which kind of undermines the point of having factions

But I doubt this will be in, I think Blizzard already confermed grouping among opposing factions is not possible under any circumstance.

I already voted, but allowing faction changes would deffinately solve any imbalances between Alliance and Horde Units

Maybe blizzard could limit the amount of people that change factions by having it as a quest reward...like for alliance maybe blizz would insert a traitor NPC in a village who could offer the quest, and say, after 1-5 people accept the quest to betray their race, the NPC would leave town again...to be realistic, we shouldn't just be able to choose to change factions on our own, because there would be no reason for our enemies to trust us....I'm all for limitted quests, cause although i do want ppl to be able to change factions, i don't want to see too many traitors as well...if one side was losing the epic battles, i don't want to see everyone able to transfer all their high lvls to be on the winning side

For the love of God, im sick of hearing people think changeing faction will be carebear. Almost every successsfull MMORPG allows inter grouping or changing factions. I think it will be fine, all Blizz has to do is make it very very hard and long, and then as you start to change your old faction will change, so that you will be KoS in your old factions cities. Also you shouldnt be able to guild or group till you completally change, so you can't get in an in between stage where you can go anywhere.

yes. though as someone said, it should be hard because if you read the wc books, it was hard for thrall to even be accepted by his race. it should take months of real time to gain the other factions trust. or maybe you could gain another race's trust. like an orc being accepted by the dwarves but not by the humans. i mean, this is all human vs. orc and troll conflict. its really all explained in the bonus campaign

I like the idea that you can get on friendly terms with the opposite faction. Maybe for just UD and NE, tho, because they are both kinda new to their respective alliances.

So, I say yes, but as long as you can still have some support from your former faction.
Yes, some names are now different names.

I like how the original poster stopped counting the "No" votes after 27.

I assure you that was not my intention. Can you point out the ones I missed? Sorry about that. I will probably do a recount of the whole thread eventually, but for now it's probably safe to say the tally is accurate within 5 votes plus or minus.

Yes=62
No=27

Bah, I have some time right now. I'm doing a recount and making two lists of names (Yes and No) in Excel so I don't count people multiple times.

Funny how someone with Soviet in their name is complaining about a voting procedure. :P They can all be tallied up at the end anyway, should have some very interesting findings.

I see no problem with changing factions, as long as favor with your original faction is also impacted ... perhaps more so than gaining the opposite faction originally cost. Nothing worse than a trader/defector, and it should be incredibly difficult to "come back" after defecting to the enemy's side.

My 2 cents.

Vote = No

The only way I would find it acceptable would be in the situation where the person actually switched sides and was then considered KOS in his old faction's areas and could be considered a PvP target for members of his original faction.

RECOUNT

LLJKSoviet expressed concerns about my vote counting, so I did a complete recount of this thread.

I entered each vote into an Excel file so I wouldn't count people twice. Sure enough, I came accross a few names I counted twice before. Here is the Excel file for those that want to look - http://homepage.mac.com/jakeman/files/factions.xls - the "A" column contains the Yes votes, the "B" column contains the No votes.

Also, when doing the recount I was extra conservative... there were several posts that I didn't count where the person was "on the fence".

NEW RECOUNTED TALLY:
Yes=60
No=26

The old tally was:
Yes=62
No=27

So I had 2 extra Yes votes and 1 extra No vote the first time around.

yes

if the game is designed for the casual and hardcore alike restricting whom you can play with due to hord/alliance faction issues would do more harm then good.

besides, its a rpg at it's core and who says a dwarf drunk out of his tree would never raise an orphaned troll and throw fits whenever someone suggested he had one drink too many? now that's a background that would be fun to play with a friend :)

NO from me.

Lots of people bring up the "its and RPG, so race x could befriend race y without a doubt."
If everyone would treat WoW as a real RPG and play accordingly, then I think changing factions would be a valid idea.

But MMORPGs are not regarded as RPGs by 90% of the people on each server. I tried the RPG approach in both UO and EQ early on, just to fail misserably both times.
People would use the chance to change faction to find exploits for PvP, it wouldnt be funny. How about finding a way to kill the guards in a human town as undead, gaining omg so hawt xp, and the other guards wont attack you cause of some faction exploit.

(I know Iam pulling the guard camping out of my hat, its just an example from the early days of EQ.)
